This qualification covers the knowledge, understanding and some of the skills associated with the design, specification, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning and handover of electrical energy storage systems (EESS). It follows the IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems and industry guidance, together with the requirements of BS 7671. 

It has a range of relevant outcomes covering statutory legislation applicable to EESS, the principles of batteries and EESS, how to specify and design an EESS, installation, inspection and testing, and handover of an EESS. 

City College Plymouth will provide all tools and equipment required for your training. We offer a free breakfast for all of our students and short course delegates will be given a free lunch voucher to use in our Food Court.

Course Description

The course covers the following:

  • – understand the statutory legislation applicable to EESS
  • – understand the principles of batteries and EESS 
  • – understand how to specify and design an EESS
  • – understand the requirements for installation, inspection and testing, and handover of an EESS
  • – install, commission, and handover an EESS installation. 

To take this qualification, you must be a competent electrician and hold one of the qualifications listed below, with the relevant AM test (eg AM2/S/E/D): 

– Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) 
– Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) 
– Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification
Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker 
– Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services – Electrical Installation (Building and Structures) 
– Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification.
Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings 
– Level 3 EAL Building Services Engineering – Electrotechnical Installation 
– equivalent historical qualifications. 
 
Delegates should bring with them a copy of the Code Of Practice For Electrical Energy Storage Systems, 2nd Edition. It is strongly recommended that you read this Code of Practice before attending our course.

The qualification is assessed by the use of an onscreen multiple choice exam, and an EAL set, and centre marked practical assessment. Both assessments must be passed for the qualification to be awarded.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2024/2025 (August 2024-July2025). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2025/2026.
